Foundation Stage

Pencil Grip - Below is a chart showing the different ways that a child holds a pencil. They go up in stages from left to right- Tripod (pincer grip) being the correct pencil grip we would like to see in Reception and the end of Nursery Summer Term.

Parents can practise pencil grip at home with their child and we have a write dance activity sheet on the Foundation Stage parents notice board with ideas for mark making and grip.

We also assess against pencil grip each half term to see how children are progressing and will refer to the type of grip a child uses in their profile.
